Dear Reader,

I became Legal Project director just over a year ago. What attracted me most to the project was that unlike the many organizations that focus on "raising awareness," this project is on the front lines of the war against Western values and it's having an impact.

I am proud to report that over the last year, we have not only expanded our defensive capabilities, aiding anti-Islamist speakers targeted with lawsuits for speaking out, but have also developed innovative policy approaches to preempt and strike back against Islamist intimidation.

Some of our recent activities include:

  • Developing a focused legislative proposal to protect cartoonists, authors and private citizens facing threats and intimidation from Islamic extremists. The key insight is that a minor modification to existing federal abortion law would permit victims of threats to sue for damages.

  • Developing an accredited 1.5 hour Continuing Legal Education (CLE) course for attorneys on Islamists' misuse of law to stifle open debate. The CLE has been presented in Philadelphia and DC.

  • Completing a guide for journalists on recognizing and combating efforts to suppress speech on Islam related topics.

These are just some highlights. We can do all this thanks to a well-credentialed, highly skilled staff whose dedication to the issues permits us to operate on a shoestring budget.

Legal Project readers understand that robust protections for the frank discussion of radical Islam are our first line of defense against the encroachment of Islamic law. The Legal Project is the only organization dedicated to resisting Islamist intimidation at both the case and policy level.

Your support is essential to our continued mission, and even a modest gift can make a difference. (Click here to contribute.)

Thank you very much and Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Daniel Huff,

Legal Project Director
